Concrete Canoe

Concrete Canoe is a student competition where students design, build, and race a canoe made of concrete with accordance to the rules presented by the American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE). Concrete Canoe has been at UC Davis for decades and the tradition continues to this day. The team gains experience working on an engineering project outside of a classroom, as well as learning teamwork and management.

The development of a low-density high-strentgh concrete mix and and construction of the frame and the mold for the canoe begin Fall Quarter. Training for paddling starts in the summer before classes start. This year long project leads up to Mid-Pac, the regional competition where our canoe is put to the test against the canoes built by other schools. (And then on to nationals!)
